Nick Lewis - IT Professional

Who is Nick Lewis

I am an experienced IT professional based in the Midlands. Having been involved in designing, building and implementing many different software systems into businesses ranging from the very small, with one or two employees, to a multinational company with turnover measured in billions.

My wide experience as a developer gives me the skills and experience to add value to almost any project especially if web enabled technologies are involved. I have produced a wide variety of systems on a range of platforms over many years so not much intimidates me these days! My wealth of experience in a real business environment has included being a member of all sizes of team. Sometimes handling all aspects of a smaller project myself at others playing my part in SAP implementations involving thousands of people; of course most projects fall somewhere in between and I have also been fortunate to have been a key player in successful projects involving smaller teams, always a rewarding experience.

I believe the key assets of a developer centre around problem solving, communication skills and an understanding of the broader platform rather than a tick list of langauges or platforms, having said that I have worked with many different platforms and languages over the years, for a fuller list look at the skills page of my site.

Just a couple of my career highlights include:

  • Part of a small team designing developing and implementing a Procurement Card solution, acknowledged by industry experts as the best of breed. I was heavily involved in the design of the business processes and was entirely repsonsible for the functional and technical design of the software as well as development. This project was executed using classic ASP, DHTML, XML and AJAX technologies for the front end with an SQL Server backend.
  • The design and implementation of a custom forms engine using XML/AJAX with classic ASP and an SQL server backend. This engine took a form definition in an XML document stored on SQL server, displayed it to the user via Javascript and DHTML, subsequently converting the users response into a further XML document and delivering this back to the SQL server backend.
